How to Start Early on Your New Year’s Resolutions

2020 has been a long year so why wait until January 1st to start your New Year’s Resolutions! If your goals this year are to get organized, why not start writing things down now? Or if you want to get in shape, start doing what you can to work out during the holidays! Getting in a practice round before 2021 could give you the best possible chance of success going into the new year.  Check out our tips on how to start your New Year's Resolutions early this year!

Write Down Goals

Making a list of your goals is the number one way to start off the New Year successfully.  Whether you are a person who likes a physical pen and paper to make or you want to make a mental list in your head, it is important to set those goals so you have something to go back to.

Make a Plan

When going over your goals for the year, make sure you are setting realistic goals for yourself.  Many people have a goal to lose weight, but that is not specific enough to stick to! Instead of selecting such an ambiguous goal, focus on something more specific that you can realistically set your sights on.  For example, instead of losing weight, shift your goal to “Lose 10 pounds” or “Run a half-marathon” this way you have the opportunity to plan exactly how you are going to accomplish your goal over the course of the year!

Take Action

Now that you have set our goals and have a good plan to start them, it’s time to take action! Just because it is not officially January 1st does not mean you can’t set yourself up for a very successful year.  Start with one thing at a time and try keeping a resolutions journal! This way you can look back on all that you have accomplished and refresh your goals come spring time!

Give Yourself a Break

While you are starting your goals early this year, remember it is still the holiday season.  It’s a great idea to get in the habit of what you want your goals to be, but if you have a couple of Christmas cookies or miss a workout, don’t beat yourself up! The important part is that you are making an effort to start off the New Year on a good note!

Beginning early on your goals this year will give you a head start when it comes to seeing results in 2021. If you’re not immediately seeing the number on the scale go down or the number in your bank account go up, you might lose faith and give up completely. But, with a week or two of your resolution already behind you when the new year kicks off, it might make you feel like your results are a little more instantaneous! Here’s to a happy and healthy year in 2021!
